Chinesse Transport

Walt: Follow an inquiry process.
This term as we have been learning about China, we have continued building on the inquiry skills we learnt in term 2. We brainstormed open questions as a class and then delegated these out to pairs. The part of China Holly and I were finding out more about was the different ways of transport. We found most of our information from on the internet. We used a data chart to make sure we triangulated all our information so we knew it was true. We then used Movie Maker to present our inquiry. Something I enjoyed was the filming because it was alot of fun but also took alot of pererverance. An interesting fact I found out was that trains are the most used transport in China and that they are not like trains here in New Zealand because they have speed trains. My next learning step in inquiry is to find out all my information alot faster and maybe to make the movie not so silly and with some more clearer information and more information by itself because some people might not get the way that we have presented it which means they wouldn't have gotten the main fact.

Walt: Write a recount using descriptive laungue.

This is my Scrapblog that I made. I made it on my recount of the October holidays, It is about playing Blindmans Bluff. I used Scrapblog to make it.

To make one I had to first write my recount and then make a Scrapblog account. After that I started on making one. I got to create the whole thing from a blank page, if you wanted to you could also choose a theme. I choose the background, stickers on it and I typed in the text from my writing book.

Special Olympics "Let me win. But if I cannot win,let me be brave in the attempt."

Yesterday 14th Octoberwe had three specialguests who are Special Olympics athletes.Joshua, Conrad and Hamish. They came along with Jessicawho told us a little bit about the Special Olympics. Each ofthe athletes also gave a speech. We learnt that Joshua was lucky enough to go to the world winter games in theU.S.A. He plays Tenpin Bowling, Basket Ball, Golf and Swimming. Conrad has won 2 gold medals, a sliver and a bronze. Hamish joined the Special Olympics to gain skills,to meet new people and to celebrate their achievements.

The Special Olympics are a chance for people with intellectual disabilities to compete in a sport/s they excel at and enjoy. This year we are lucky enough to have the Special Olympics right here in Palmerston North from the 2 – 6 December with the opening and closing ceremonies both being held at Arena Manawatu. There are around 11 sports in the event with sports like Golf which Conrad and Joshua both play. There are alsosports like Tenpin Bowling which Hamish plays and will be held at Bowlarama and Basketball at Arena 2. We are very excited to have our own Special Olympics SUPER Athlete right here at SJS, who will be competing at the Special Olympics 2009. Zeppelin C in Room 3 has persevered in swimming and can now swim a length of the Freyberg pool!!! Go Zep!!!!Each of our classes will adopt an athlete. We will get tomeet and have fun with them next Wednesday. We are hoping to be able to support our athletes including Zeppelin when they compete.
